September 13, 2019
Happy Friday! Not only is it Friday the 13th, but it is also a full moon. I will be gone on Monday at a Perkins meeting in Ankeny. If you need a sub on Monday morning, please call Kyle.
When I was going around on Wednesday to the various groups it was good to hear the various conversations taking place on curriculum and the essential learnings. Hopefully we will get our data back from the ISASP soon so we can start to look at that. They may influence us on what we think is essential.
Next week is homecoming, that means the craziness will be in full swing. Please take part in the dress up days, but continue to lead the students in class. Also, please be present in the halls between class to keep the craziness down to a minimum. We will be getting out at 11:42 on Friday. The coronation/pep rally will start at 1:00 followed by the parade. At 5:00 pm there will be a ribbon cutting at the new stadium, followed by the tailgate at 5:30 pm, introduction of royalty at 6:15 pm and football game at 7:00 pm. At halftime, the Big Red Band will make is debut under the direction of Mr. Prichard. Following the game, you can attend the homecoming dance in Carey Gym until midnight.
Menumasters is next week. You can purchase your tickets in the office, cost is $30 a ticket. This is a great fundraiser for LEEP to help provide resources for the classroom. It is also a fun evening of food and laughter. If you haven't attended before, please consider.
Have a great weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings
I am excited to get Homecoming Week underway! The Student Council has put in a lot of time and effort for this week's events. While Homecoming is a fun event please make sure we are keeping student behavior standards high. This should be a fun week for all but make sure we are sharing the message that school comes first. Feel free to participate in dressing up with students. They enjoy seeing teachers take part in the fun of Homecoming Week as well.
Looking ahead, Mid-Term is coming up soon. Make sure you are keeping on top of communicating and grading so students don't have surprises. Please be in contact with parents early so everyone is on the same page.

Success Center Update
We have had strong conversation this year about the fundamental beliefs of MTSS: Do we believe that all students can learn at a high level? and Do we believe it is our responsibility to ensure our students have the skills they need to succeed? As an extension of this discussion, I heard an interesting speaker on Monday who said that there are four essential messages we should be sending to our students:
1. You are important.
2. What we are learning is important
3. You can do it.
4. We will not give up on you.
I think, too, that we need to send these messages to each other! Some days are tougher than others, but the bottom line? We make a difference. Thanks for caring about your kids.

Do you get fed up showing YouTube videos with ads providing an unwanted distraction? Maybe you are not a fan of comments that you would prefer your students not read. Here are a few websites that might allow you to show only the video:
