Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. For only having 4 days this week, it sure felt longer to me. I think it is because we try to jam 5 days worth of work into the 4 days.
I want to reinforce the emphasis on if you see students doing something they shouldn't, please address it right then and there. Quite a few students commented on the lack of consistency on how rules were enforced by the staff. When we turn our back on something we send the message that the behavior is acceptable to the others that observed it. This will only cause an increase in the behaviors we don't want. Once you have addressed the behavior, you can always follow up with an email to Kyle or myself and we can talk with the student as well to reinforce our expectations.
CIA would like to get feedback on how advisory went teaching the social and academic skills in the powerpoint. Please let one of those members know your feedback. CIA members are Sherri Permswaran, Lori Carter, Judy Zeka, Michael Bahr, and Adam Moss.
Looking ahead to next week, we do have an extra hour meeting on Wednesday. Please let me know if your department is going at 7:00 am or 4:00 pm. I wasn't able to make it to all the groups this past Wednesday, so I'll make sure I hit those groups first this time.
Monday we have class meetings. Kyle sent out an email on where each class needs to report. Please make sure you are also at those meetings. I will be meeting with the seniors in the new gym to go over senior year information and we will take the class picture. We also have our first evacuation drill on Thursday. That will take place at 8:35 am.
Have a great weekend!

Very few students who were marked incorrectly so thank you all for keeping track and updating attendance. We already have a few students who are pushing the limits on attendance so if you have any that are concerns please come talk to me so I can check on them.
Homecoming is around the corner! Please sign-up on the Google Doc so I don't sign you up for a time that doesn't work. The sheet also includes details for Homecoming Week. Let me know if you have any questions.
Google Calendar will guess your working hours and warn colleagues. Previously, you had to activate it through the app's settings, but now it'll now be enabled by default

Assistant Principal's Happenings
Early each week, one of my goals is to stop in and talk with each teacher in the morning. This is just an informal stop to check with everyone on how they are doing and see if you need anything from me. I will also be starting some walkthrough's this next week for 5-10 minutes each class. If you see me stopping in the room just ignore me!Very few students who were marked incorrectly so thank you all for keeping track and updating attendance. We already have a few students who are pushing the limits on attendance so if you have any that are concerns please come talk to me so I can check on them.

Success Center Update
I thought this article was interesting to consider as we all work to establish behavior expectations for students in our classrooms. I know it made me look differently at what I do and say!
"As teachers we want and need the respect of students for a wide variety of reasons. Some adults say to young people, "When you start being respectful, I'll be respectful of you." But it doesn't work that way for children or adults when it comes to leading. The leadership rule is "respect: you've got to give it to receive it." It's leader first. Unless you do the adjusting and changing and respecting, you're not going to be the classroom leader, and most students aren't going to change. But students are going to blame you for their failures. That's the reality of being the learning leader. As students say, you must talk the walk and walk the talk to lead.
It may sound simple, but among your first leadership actions should be identifying the attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors students need to be successful, sharing them frequently with students, and adopting and practicing them faithfully yourself - before you expect students to follow your lead" (The Master Teacher, 2019).
