Happy Friday! I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Enjoy the time off and take the chance to rest and get ready to start the second semester. When we come back on the 3rd, we will have 4 days of regular class and then semester tests. Grades will be due on January 14 at 8:00 am. Beth and Amy will run report cards and get them sent out that day. I will need PASS plan summaries by Monday at 8:00 am also. A student earning a "F" needs to have a PASS plan on file in my office. I have shared a spreadsheet with you that shows all the PASS plans I have. 

 We have had quite a few students who have missed numerous days, if you are going to give the student an incomplete, please put the due date in the comments on the report card so parents know when the work needs to be made up.

Today we have the Children's Theater. We will be dismissing sometime around 1:35 to check-in students. School will be dismissed after the performance. I will see you all on January 3.

Book Nook - notes from the Librarian

Many of us will be traveling for Christmas and audio books are a great way to pass the time. As stated earlier, you can download the MackinVia app to your phone and get some to listen to, but better yet is the Bridges program through the Le Mars public library. You must log in with your public library card (free to all residents in Plymouth County). You can also put the app on your phone (called Libby). The app is very easy to use. You can even set your preferences first. Just be aware that there are audio and ebooks available. If you are wanting to listen to a book, make sure you search audio books only. Merry Christmas!

 Google’s Chrome Canvas is a handy browser app for quick doodles  Google has quietly released a progressive web app called Chrome Canvas that lets you make quick doodles that automatically save to your Google account, via Chrome Unboxed. That means you can just type in “canvas.apps.chrome” into a Chrome browser on any computer, and pull up a basic drawing app without having to download any programs or apps.

As you prepare your students to take multiple choice semester tests, here are some test-taking strategies to share: 
1.  Look for key words that will help you to understand what the question is asking.  Circle or underline important words in the question that will help you to focus your thoughts.
2.  Read all the answer choices before selecting one.  It is just as likely for the last answer choice to be correct as the first.  
3.  Cross out answer choices you are certain are not correct.  This will help you to narrow down the correct answer choice.
4.  Use the test to help you take the test.  The answer choice you are looking for may be found in the wording of another question on the test.
5.  Trust your brain!!  Do not change your initial answer unless you are sure another answer choice is correct.  More often than not, your first choice is correct.

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Teachers with the asterick by their name in the Teacher Handbook are the lead teachers and will need to take charge of these meetings.  Dress up days for Homecoming Week. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!...
