Happy Friday! Thank you for all your work on the reading comprehension lessons. As I walked around the groups I was able to hear some good lessons. I know some of you are not seeing the improvement you have hoped, but keep pushing the students. Research shows that students need to be exposed to a strategy several times before it will become a habit. Once the student makes the strategy their own, the growth will occur. Just a reminder the extra-hour meeting on December 22 will be in your department PLC groups.

 I will be gone this today for a Lakes Conference Principal's meeting in Spencer. If you ever wonder what one of our conference schools do for something, let me know and I'll try to find out. Most of our meetings consist of sharing what we are doing or how we handle certain situations. 

 Looking ahead we do have a shelter drill on Thursday, December 17 at 1:30 pm. I will be out of town on Monday, December 14, so if you need a substitute please call Neal Sunday or Monday. I should be back Monday night sometime. 

 Monday night the music department will be having their Holiday Concert in the competition gym. This is always a great concert, so bring the family out for a night of excellent entertainment.

Congratulations to the Dance Team for earning a division 1 rating and 3rd place in pom.

Great job to the the students who participated in the Madrigal on Friday and Saturday. You all did an outstanding job!

Kellie Bork and Tracy Wingert will be presenting and attending the Minnesota TIES conference on December 14 and 15. They are presenting on the fitness bands that Mr. Bork has been using in his strength class. 
Assistant Principal's Corner
The LCHS Student Council is sponsoring our annual Christmas Coins collection for the Christian Needs Center in Le Mars.  This is a non-profit organization that helps to provide food, clothing, and living essentials to families who are in need within the town of Le Mars.  Please help to promote this collection with the students and encourage them to each bring in $2.00 toward the cause.  Collection buckets are in the office and the collection will run from December 8th - December 18th.

As we approach our last week of school before Christmas break remember that kids will be excited and may be harder to keep focused.  Please continue to be patient and to work with the students who may be struggling to keep on task.  Remember to keep your eyes open to poor behavior choices that may be taking place in the classroom as well as in the hallways and passing areas.  Keep these three things in mind if you should witness bad behavior:

1. Always step in when a student or adult is acting hurtfully or cruelly - stop the behavior and point it out to the people involved.

2. Utilize discipline strategies that teach and help change behavior when students break rules - don't just yell at them and pass over it, use these incidents as "teachable moments".

3. Provide ways for students to repair harm to relationships and the school environment after they engage in negative or harmful behavior - everyone deserves a second chance and should have a clean slate once they move pass the moment of making poor choices, let students start fresh the next day to help improve their relationship within your class or in the school.

  Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?   Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.   Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Teachers with the asterick by their name in the Teacher Handbook are the lead teachers and will need to take charge of these meetings.  Dress up days for Homecoming Week. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!...
