Friday Focus
I hope everyone has had a great week! This will be the last Friday Focus of 2024. I do want to take the time to thank Mrs. Habeck. Mrs. Habeck will be finishing her position with us on December 20. She will be on our regular sub list so she will still be in the building on some days. Mrs. Habeck helped us out as we did not get the Freshman English position filled at the start of the year. Thank you for working with our students, learning new technolgies that didn't exist the last time you were in the classroom, and just being a great person! Starting January 2, Ms. Thomas will be taking over some of the Freshman English sections along with Ms. Hommes and Mr. Mena.
Thank you for your work during inservice. Part of our plan in professional development this year is to give you new tools for your toolbox. Not everyone will use every tool that CIA shows you this year and that is fine. AI is just another tool out there for you to use. There are many potential uses for AI, but it takes time to become comfortable using AI or writing effective prompts to get AI to do what you want it to do. CIA is giving you some time to explore the uses of AI and to work on becoming proficient in writing those prompts. When I first started using AI, this website was helpful in writing prompts: https://www.aiforeducation.io/prompt-library. As I reflect back on some of my previous Friday Focus posts and inservice work, I think some may have picked up a message that we are almost requiring you to use AI, but that is definitely not the case. Again, AI is just another tool for your toolbox.
I don't have a lot of new information for you today, so I am including some information from last week. I am adding some more details as I have had some clarifying questions and I want to make sure I give everyone those answers. I will bold the new information to make it easier to find what I added.
After today, we only have 2 instructional days and 3 semester test days left in this semester. As we quickly approach the end of the semester there are a few items I want to remind you about to ensure they are completed.
1. Grades are due before you leave on December 20. You will need to verify your Semester 1 grades. Please double check a few calculations to make sure PowerSchool is doing this correctly. Steps to verify your grades: 1. Log into PowerTeacher Pro, 2. Go to 'A+ Grading' and Click 'Traditional', 3. Click 'Final Grade Status' in the bottom right-hand corner, 4. Check the box for 'S1 Final Grades are Complete' and then click 'Save'.
2. Make sure that you have turned in the PASS Plan summary form for any student that failed a class to the office and have mailed a copy home. Please notify the guidance office so they can make a note about summer school. This form needs to be filled out for each student individually. The form can be found here: PASS Plan Summary Form To mail the summary home, you can get envelopes from the office. We do have a place in the office to put outgoing mail. You can place your outgoing mail in the folder holder hanging on the wall by the sink in the office. Each teacher needs to do this for their own F's, there is not a collective form going home.
3. For any student that was given an incomplete, please complete the form and turn into the office and send home to the parents. This form can be found here: Incomplete Form
4. If a student can do credit recovery, please let the guidance office and myself know. A packet should be put together and given to the success center so the student can complete the work necessary to pass the class.
5. If you have a semester class, please make sure you collect any school/your property before they finish your class. If you have a year long class, please check with the students as some could be changing to different teachers. If they have your items, you will want to collect those.
6. During semester tests, students are expected to be in class the entire time. The only class the students do not have to report to is study hall or resource rooms. Students in PE and Intro to Careers will need to report to class. Students that do not leave during study hall or opens, will need to be in the Commons. They will not be allowed to walk around in the hallways. Students are done testing at 2:36 on Wednesday and Thursday. Buses will run on the normal 3:30 dismissal time. Remind students they can not go to the middle school when they are done at 2:36.
7. Students will need to take the test during their assigned period unless it has been cleared through Mr. Moss or myself. Students with advance make ups can arrange a time to take their test and that does not have to go through administration.
8. On semester test make up day, students can move from class to class as needed to take tests
Important Dates
- December 18: Semester Tests (Odd Periods)
- December 19: Semester Tests (Even Periods)
- December 20: Make-up Tests, Grades Due, PASS Plan Summaries Due, and Incomplete Forms Due.
Thank You For All You Do For Our Students,
Mark
Assistant Principal's Happenings
Thank you for all the kind emails and words of encouragement yesterday for my birthday. Thank you for being a great team and making LCHS a special place to work!
I want to add my thank-you to Mrs. Habeck along with Dr. Iverson's. Mellisa stepped in and helped us out when we were in a tough spot. Thank you, Mellisa! We look forward to still seeing you in the building. Also -- thank you to Emily Vickery for pitching in to help with those classes as well.
Looking ahead -- I will be out of the office for training in Des Moines next Wednesday and Thursday. I will be back on Friday.
Grateful for our team,
Moss
