Happy Friday! As we wrap up another week, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the exceptional effort you've all put in. Your dedication to our students and their education has been truly remarkable. I'm particularly thrilled about the success of our homecoming class games last week. Your support and enthusiasm helped achieve our goal of getting more students engaged and excited for homecoming. It was wonderful to see such high levels of school spirit and participation.

This week, I've observed:
- Teachers staying late to provide additional support to struggling students
- Staff collaborating on new engaging lesson plans
- Counselors going above and beyond to address student concerns

Your commitment does not go unnoticed, and it makes a significant difference in our students' lives.

As we move forward, let's maintain our focus on holding students accountable. Remember:
1. Consistent expectations create a stable learning environment
2. Accountability teaches valuable life skills
3. When we hold students to high standards, they often exceed our expectations

Your continued efforts in this area are crucial for our students' growth and success.

Please make note of these upcoming events and deadlines:

1. Parent-Teacher Conferences: Monday night
2. End of Quarter: October 21
3. Grades Due: October 22 at 8:00 AM
4. In-service Days: October 9 and 23

Your participation in these events and adherence to these deadlines is essential for our school's smooth operation and student success.

Let's carry this positive momentum into next week. Your hard work is shaping the future of our students and our community.

Lastly, I'm always looking for ways to improve our school events and activities. If you have any ideas on how we can make future homecoming celebrations or other school events even better, please don't hesitate to share them with me. Your insights and suggestions are invaluable.

Enjoy the weekend!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

Thank you to our Courtesy Committee: Mary W., Emily K., Jenny H., Sarah W. and Tami F. -- they do a lot of work behind the scenes for our staff, including providing meals for conferences!  That is going above and beyond for us!  Thank you!

Attendance Law Update:   Some numbers for you --

So far we have 49 students (LCHS and Alt School, combined) that have reached the 5% absence threshold -- they have missed 5% of the semester (4 days).  We have sent 10% absence letters by certified mail to 9 alternative school students and 2 LCHS students; we have held or scheduled 15% "school engagement meetings" with 2 Alt School students and 2 LCHS students. We haven't had any referrals to the county attorney yet, but I expect that to change in the near future.

This past month our attendance rate was 96.3% compared to 95.8 % for September of 2023.

For discipline reports, last year on Oct 2, we had 64 referrals.  So far in 2024, we have had 108 referrals.  Much of this increase can be attributed to more cell phone violations (to be expected), and a few freshman that have required greater-than-normal attention to get acclimated to the expectations of the high school.  Seeing these numbers also gave me insight as to why I haven't been on my cart in the hallway as much so far this year.

Some of this year's referrals to date:

23 Cell Phone violations

35 Truancies

8 Suspensions

7 Refusal to Follow Teacher Directions

The Boys Town Skills I have been teaching the most:

"Following Instructions"

"Making An Apology"

"Controlling Emotions"

"Using Appropriate Language"

Keep teaching behavior directly:)  In a sense, I love seeing our staff having "hallway chats" with students.  On one hand, I know that something had to happen that led to that moment.  I don't like that part.  But I love seeing our staff invest in our kids in a 1 on 1 way to help them "see the light".  Keep it up.

Grateful,

Moss
