November 12, 2021
Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. You still have tonight or tomorrow to catch the production, "Once Upon a Pandora's Box". Performances are at 7:00 pm each night.
Midterm is on November 17, which is also the last day of Trimester 1. Trimester 1 grades are due on November 22. We will mail Trimester report cards home that day. Midterms will be handed out on November 17 in 8th period.
Thank you for your work during in-service on Wednesday. As we continue along our PLC journey and become more familiar with the process, we will be able to focus on more skills and interventions for those that need it. Reminder that the 4 PLC questions will guide us in what we do. 1. What do we want students to know or be able to do? 2. How will we know if they learned it? 3. How will we respond when some students do not learn? 4. How will we extend the learning for students who are already proficient?
PASS Plans need to be completed by the 17. Right now I show we have 162 kids failing one or more classes and I only have PASS plans for 50 kids. A student must have a PASS plan on file with me if they fail the class.
Semester tests will be on Dec 17 - Periods 1, 3, 5, & 7 and December 20 - Periods 2, 4, 6, & 8. December 21 will be the make up date. Students will report to all classes except study hall. They may be excused from Success Center or Resource Room if they are caught up. Students that choose to stay in the building will need to report to the commons.
For those of you who remember WKRP in Cincinnati, this has to be the best Thanksgiving video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiSkjcl9yW4
Enjoy your weekend!
Assistant Principal's Happenings
With the number of kids failing a class, please make sure you are encouraging all students to take advantage of retakes or use the time before or after school to complete late work. We have added a couple of kids to the Success Center that have been struggling in the 2nd quarter, but if there are kids that may need that help, please let us know. Talking to one teacher this week, she discussed how she had a retake in class and it helped improve 41 out of 44 students' scores. I know this is extra time out of classroom lessons but this could be a great way to show that students did learn the essential material and will help them out long-term with their grades.
I know addressing issues with the whole class is necessary and should be done when needed. Other times, I highly recommend addressing discipline concerns one on one with students. That way you can address the concern directly with them and they won't be embarrassed which often leads to other issues instead of fixing the one that needs to be remedied. However, if a student is causing a disruption to others' learning and they will not stop do not allow them to continue with that behavior and send them out if necessary.
Mrs. Isebrand's class is working on a video segment about Finals so Freshman, new students, and those that simply don't remember from last year will have some direction on it. Once that is made please make sure all students watch it in Advisory so they are prepared for Finals.Remember with the change of Trimester, there will be students that do not know where to go. If you have some time at the end of class, please go over their schedules so they are ready for the switch on Thursday. Hopefully, there won't be too many students that show up to the Guidance Office trying to change it that morning...
