Happy Friday! We made it through another week. Next week is homecoming. This will be far from anything we have had in the past, but it is about the best we can do with maintaining social distance and not putting people's health in jeopardy. Coronation will be held Friday night with the football game. The students on the court requested that so that Colton Hoag would be able to participate in person rather than virtually. Hopefully we don't have more issues with quarantine! After visiting with several people in the last few days, it appears our grading policy is causing stress on us and the students. I believe that our current policy is good, when every one is here and not being put into quarantine. In our current situation, I think this is adding to the stress on everyone and it is something we can address. I will be sending out a survey to the teachers asking for their input on the 85/15 split.  If you haven't been talking to the students that come back from quarantine t...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. Thank you for the discussion on Wednesday about how the year is going and procedures we are using. You all should have received the updated bell schedule. We will continue to evaluate how things are going and if we need to make modifications to what we are doing. Looking ahead we have midterm on Tuesday. Please make sure grades are updated. Mr. Wingert has figured out one issue on why the grades were not calculating correctly. If your grades look off, please check a few by hand, and then talk with Mr. Wingert.  We will be doing parent teacher conferences differently this year. This is what I am putting in the October Newsletter to the parents.  "I want to draw your attention to the dates for our parent/teacher conferences. This year we will have our conferences on October 8 and 13 from 5:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Conferences will look different this year as you will need to schedule your conferences. We will not be allowing walk-in ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. Thank you for your patience on running the screener yesterday. It is nice to get a baseline on our students so we can see how thy progress through the year. This also gives us a snapshot of where some of kids may be sitting after being off of school since March.  As we complete our third week of school, please take the time to breath and relax. Tasks will get done, and learning will take place. It may not look like past years or you may think I am not as far along as I want to be, but that is fine. Just give your students your best effort. We are teaching them more than content right now, how we handle this situation models to them how to handle adversity. This will be a little hiccup in the big picture for all of us. I want to remind you that my door is open if you need to come and release some stress. I am confident that the year will get easier, and as we spread out the rooms, we will have fewer kids that need to be quaranti...

Happy Friday! Thank you for all your work this week. I know everyone's stress level is much higher than the typical start of the school year. I will make every effort to keep you as informed as I can about what is going on with students being put into quarantine.  I have had a few questions about students put into quarantine at school and then being told they need to still go to work. I can't control what the work place tells them, some of our students work in places where they are labeled "essential employees". So if they don't show symptoms, their employer may still require them to go to work. We are also following the IDPH guidance on Evaluating Sick Students and Staff .  I also want to remind you that what we are doing with online learning and decisions we make will not be perfect. Each time we have a situation we learn new things from it. The only thing we can do is try to get better and to tweak the process to make it as fair and consistent as possible.  Wit...
