March 23, 2018
Happy Friday, It is hard to believe that we are down to single digits for the number of Friday's left in the school year. That means, this year is about done. Thank you to those of you who have scheduled PASS Plans now. I do know how crazy and busy this time of year gets. Remember the purpose of the PASS Plan is to remind the parent and student it is their responsibility to get the work done and study. It is our responsibility to provide the opportunities and to continue to check to make sure our students are learning the material.
Something Neal and I have been discussing is doing some sort of college wall in the lunch room. What we were thinking of is hanging a pennant then putting staff names under the pennant. If you have another idea, please let us know.
Students will be taking the CPT for concurrent classes on Tuesday in the library. We do have our extra hour meeting on Wednesday, after that one, we only have 4 more. Also on Wednesday we get out at 2:30. We will run our 1 hour early out schedule.
I will not have a Friday Focus next week, so looking ahead at the calendar we have a fire drill on April 4 @ 11:00 am. Music Boosters will have their Pancake supper on April 6. Iowa Assessments are the week of April 9th. We will run our testing schedule. Mrs. Hill and Mr. Kopperud will get you more info on the testing. The spring play is April 12 - 14. Extra hour meetings in April are on the 11th and 25th.
Have a good weekend!

Special Education Reminders:
1. Please make sure you are
reviewing the IEP requirements outlined for special education students in
your classroom. These have been shared with you at the beginning of the
school year in a google document.
2. Remember that it is your responsibility
as the classroom teacher to make sure that accommodations are being made
as well as provided. If you are not sure how to provide them, then
consult one of the special education teachers for ideas.
3. Do not expect that special
education teacher to make the accommodations to your test, quiz, or
assignments without ample time to review the material. You need to make
the accommodations, give the item to the special education teacher to review
the accommodations, then take recommendations on how to change instruction to
meet the student's needs.
4. Reminder that not providing
appropriate accommodations to student's on IEP's or denying them the
rights to these accommodations will be hard to defend in a court case, if
an issue should arise.
5. If it says that it should
happen on the IEP, then it must happen in the classroom!
Librarian's News
The library will be closed all day Tuesday, March 27. The college placement tests will be proctored there. We have 98 students taking the test, so there you will be missing students for up to 2 hours at a time. Most of them will not take the entire time, so they should return to class upon finishing their test. The 5th hour study hall will be in the little theater that day. Thank you for your cooperation in this endeavor.
Prom plans are well underway. We do need CLEAN one-gallon jugs so we can make punch ahead of time and store it in the fridge. If you have any, please bring to library. Clean empty "cool whip" containers are also needed (about 20) if you have any to donate. And, if you want to see the kids all dressed up, please consider helping for an hour or so. We will need door monitors throughout the evening.

My last tip this week is very exciting. Thanks to Mr. Oetken's student teacher for giving it a try, we discovered how to use our SWIVL units to share real-time video. You can use your favorite video streaming app like Zoom, Skype, or Facebook Live. One reason to get excited about this is the opportunity to help home bound students. A student who is home ill for a day or a prolonged period could now Zoom in using their phone, tablet, or computer and be a part of your class at its scheduled time helping them keep up in class and cutting down on the number of students needing to get help outside of the regular school day.
