November 17, 2017

Happy Friday! With only have school 2 days next week, this will cover the next couple of weeks as I won't send one out next Friday. Looking ahead, the All-State Music Festival is Saturday in Ames. Good luck to those participants. During the next 2 advisory times we will watch the Harbor videos. Episode 19 will be on the 20th and Episode 20 will be on the 27th. We do get out a hour early on Tuesday, November 21. The bowling team will have their first match of the season on Monday. Girls basketball will play their first official game Tuesday vs. Hinton. Both bowling and basketball is in Le Mars.

We have our extra hour meeting on November 29. At 7:30 am I will need everyone to come to the library as Sandy Downing will be meeting with us to go over a new leave request system. Yes, another change, but this one should be easier. You will need to use your Web Link log in for leave request. Sandy will explain all of this at that time.

If you haven't had a chance to purchase your madrigal tickets yet for December 1 or 2 you can still get them. This event has been very entertaining and you won't leave hungry. The students do an excellent job and you may even get a role in the show that night.

Remember to have PASS plans completed by December 8. After that date I will not accept them.

Enjoy your break next week!

Assistant Principal's Happenings

LCHS Student Council is sponsoring a blood drive on November 30, 2017 for anyone interested in donating.  Sign up forms can be picked up in the main office.  Blood drive will run from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm in the lobby of the new gym.  Please be aware that some of our student council kids may be missing some class to help out (Study hall is the goal).

LCHS Student Council wants to give Cancer the "Boot"!  Help us raise money for local families in the Le Mars Community School family by purchasing a t-shirt for $12.00.  We will also be collecting donations with our annual "Christmas Coins" pledge, but will use the money this year to help out those affected by Cancer.  The council is sponsoring a campaign against cancer at the December 19th basketball game against Spirit Lake as we celebrate "Hick Night" and collect donations toward our cause.  Giving Cancer the Boot is the theme - please consider helping!

Librarian's News

Huge thank you to all those who contributed to our Support Siouxland Soldiers program. We will be shipping 50 + care packages to deployed troops. On top of that, we will be sending some food to the Food for Veterans program in Sioux City. Thank you for helping make this a success.

With all the fake news and biased articles out there, please encourage your students to use the resources found at www.iowaaeaonline.org, particularly Gale. The user name for all resources there is 3600lmhs. The password is nwaea.  The Le Mars Public Library also offers Ebsco, another wonderful source.

Google has released a game called "Mystery Animal." I realize that this might not be a great fit for high school but with Thanksgiving coming up and family getting together I thought this might be fun to do with younger children. It basically boils down to playing 20 questions versus Google. Google is thinking of an animal. Can you guess the animal in 20 questions or less? Andoid users----Google has recently launched a beta version of its Files To Go app. It is a file management app designed to clean up space on your phone and help you stay organized. The most impressive feature may be that it lets you share files with other Android users in a way similar to Apple's AirDrop. Click here to read more.
