Happy Friday! We made it to another weekend. As we get closer to the end of the school year, students will begin to test our patience. Remember to take a deep breath before reacting to something. We do not want to get into arguments or power struggles with students, especially if their is an audience. In these instances nobody wins.
Just a friendly reminder that contracts are due on Monday for teachers and May 8 for support staff. I will still collect contracts in my office. Please just place them in the basket on my desk.
Wednesday night was the annual Foundation Banquet. We had one high school staff member recognized for 25 years of service. Thank you to Brian Orban for your years of service and hard work to help educate the youth of Le Mars! Also, the Employees of the month were recognized again. They were September - Rhonda Beach, October - Mike Weaver, January - Amy Davis & Beth Collins, and February - Jill Brown.
Mr. Utesch will be having a junior class meeting during advisory on May 1st in the little theater to go over opens for next school year.
We have our building level extra hour meetings on May 3 and 10 this month. These will be the last of the extra hour meetings for school year.
Next week is also Teacher Appreciation Week. There will be goodies in the lounge Tuesday-Thursday. On Friday, Neal and I will provide lunch. Thank you for all that you do to educate our students and all the extra little things that you do to make this a great place to work.
Have a great weekend!

Assistant Principal's Corner
Thank you for all that you do to make LCHS so great! We have very few days left of school, so be sure to "pick your battles" when dealing with students. Proper behavior is always expected, but the way you approach difficult situations will often times dictate the reaction you might get - take a breath and then react.
Semester test list for attendance has been shared with all of you. If you did not get access to the list and need it for class reasons, please e-mail me so that I can add you to the google document. I will update as we get closer to the last week of school and testing for students.
Reminder to staff that semester test rules are outlined in the student handbook on page 10. Please re-visit the rules for grades. Reminder that a student must have no grades lower than a C- for each quarter (3rd & 4th).
Student Council will have a meeting on May 15th to say goodbye to our seniors that have made a big impact on our school and school year. Please congratulate them on their hard work this year and for their outstanding leadership: Sydney Rand, Emily Van Otterloo, Zerich Campbell, Makena Masuen, Madison Parker, Cole Berkenpas, Walker Raymond, Bryce Frentress, Kelli Susemihl, Krista Zenk, Trent Hilbrands, and Jeff Ahlers.
We will meet our new council for the 2017-18 school year on Monday, May 22nd for our first official meeting. At the meeting we will introduce our members, elect our officers, and begin to plan next year's homecoming. If you have any ideas for homecoming 2017 - please pass it on to myself or Mrs. Isebrand.
May 1st during advisory I will be meeting with the juniors in the little theater to talk about their senior opens for next year. All junior class representatives are expected to attend this meeting to help monitor their behavior.

Many of you are familiar with Kahoot but did you know there are multiple ways to use Kahoot? Have you ever had your students do Blind Kahooting? Have you ever tried Connected Kahooting (this could possibly be used for students who are absent)? Do you have your students use Ghost Mode? Click here to learn more about these concepts.
Have you seen Google's Autodraw yet? It is a simple and easy to use drawing tool. It allows you to draw, fill in colors, resize and add text. It also includes Google's artificial intelligence to help you draw by taking your drawings and "guessing" what you were trying to draw and then providing professional images to replace your drawings. Eric Curts provides a nice description of it along with some pros and cons to consider.
goformative.com is advertised as free for students and teachers. It allows the teacher to create a question or series of questions, send them to the students, receive the students' responses, and then provide feedback to the students. It can be used by any internet connected device. Students can do more than just multiple choice and True/False questions. They can type, draw, or show their work with drawings or submit pages. This could be a good tool for formal and informal checks for understanding.
Another formative assessment opportunity is Quizster. Students take a picture of their work, the teacher receives a notification, he/she gives digital feedback on top of the picture of the work (and a grade if so desired), the student can resubmit and the grade keeping is up to date. Here is a minute and a half video walk through of Quizster. The plans tier in price from free to $3/month to $5/month.
Convert Google Docs To Gmail Drafts is a Google Docs extension that allows you to not only convert your Google Doc to a Gmail draft but it also preserves all of your formatting. This can allow you to create more visually interesting emails.
Looking for a way to have a digital whiteboard? Try the Add-on Easy-Chalk. It is a digital whiteboard complete with pens, markers, shapes, tables, charts, measuring tools, video, sounds, and images (built in and you can upload your own).
I'm sorry this week is so long but this one came across my plate Thursday night and it's too good to pass up. How about creative organizing of your drive folders using emojis. Makes you want to check it out doesn't it
