February 24, 2017

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great three day weekend and you were able to enjoy the nice weather. It is hard to believe that this is the last Friday in February.

I have scheduled meetings with each group next week to go over numbers for next school year. You also will need to get your requisitions in for next school year by March 13. When filling out the online requisitions, please make sure you use all caps. This makes it easier for Kim when she has to order. If you need to attach a quote with a requisition, please email the quote to me with the requisition number in the email so it can be matched up. The requisition number will be something like RQ0000.

Looking ahead, I won't be able to approve any more leaves for March 3. We have 7 people that will be gone that day.

I have been asked about our local assessments and when we will be giving them this year. I will sit down with those who are impacted by this soon and try to find a date in late April, early May to get these done.

Our next building in-service will be on March 8 and the second one is on March 22.

Have a great weekend! Make sure you warm up your muscles before moving all the snow that we are supposed to get.

Assistant Principal's News

On March 3rd, Mrs. Isebrand and myself will be traveling to Lewis Central High School with some of our Junior representatives from student council to attend the START leadership conference.

Reminder to be consistent with your classroom rules and don't be afraid to make a phone call home to parents.  These phone calls can and should be positive calls home, as parents do not usually get those and it can make it nice to hear from your child's teacher when something good is going on.  I challenge you all to make a positive phone call this next week to a student's parent who may need encouragement to get through the rest of the quarter.

A you begin to look ahead to the end of the school year, take the time in your PLC groups to analyze the effectiveness of your meeting time.  Developing a routine way to meet as a group that keeps all members of your team focused and engaged can be a great way to make progress happen as you look at your essential learning's and develop strategies to reach all students in your content area.  Holding each other accountable in your meetings will bring value to your time and effectiveness in your planning.  Attached are some ideas to explore by Mike Schmoker.

My first topic this week is about the "unlimited" data offerings that many of the cell phone companies recently rolled out. NW Iowa is a heavy Verizon area so I thought I would share a few of the catches to their plan.
