Happy Friday! We have completed first quarter, where has the time gone? Just a reminder grades will be due on Monday morning at 8:30. Report cards will be run and mailed home that morning.  Thank you to the English teachers for giving the 2nd round of STAR assessments this week. During your next PLC time, please look at the data and see how your students are doing. We need to continue to push the students to increase their reading comprehension skills.  I have seen some great lessons the past couple of weeks where the students are being pushed outside their comfort zones. One activity that I saw was in Ms. Bomgaars room where she had the students give a speech. Now many of us have the students give a speech, but this was in her Spanish 4 class where they had to do it in Spanish. In the few that I heard, you could tell they had to have a good grasp of the Spanish language.  Remember, if you are doing something new or a lesson you would really want me to come and se...

Happy Friday! We are drawing closer to the end of the quarter. It does end on 10/28, so grades will be due on 10/31. You will do the grade reflections during advisory on the 31st. This coming Monday, we will watch the 5th video from The Harbor. I will email out the discussion questions so you have them. I know a few of you have talked about having PASS Plan meetings, please remember to get me the plan after your meeting with the parent or parents. I do not need a copy of the letter you send home, but I do need the plan. This is a requirement if a student is going to earn a "F" for the semester grade, no exceptions. Using your judgement as a professional, if there is a chance the student may fail, do the PASS Plan. These should be done no later than November 22 in order to give the parent and student enough notice and time to meet your essential learnings. If you need a copy of the PASS Plan, it can be found on our PD website. When writing up PASS Plans, make sure the pl...

Happy Friday! As we get draw closer to the end of first quarter, I ask that you make contact with parents whose child is struggling, especially if the parent did not come to parent/teacher conferences. We need to reach out to these parents before their child gets to the point where he/she gives up. When you call the parent have something prepared to help you with the call. I would open up with who you are, let them know something positive that their child does, then get into the concern, see if they have any ideas or insights, and then come up with a plan. It may become necessary to schedule a PASS plan, but we want to start making contact now.  Thank you for getting your picture taken yesterday. I know some of you would rather just use the one from last year.  During advisory on Monday, Juniors will take the Iowa Youth Survey. Barry and Nicki should have talked to you to give you instructions on what to do. If you have Juniors and they haven't said anything, please seek...

Happy Friday! We have made it through parent/teacher conferences week. After a couple of long days, take some time to relax this weekend.  Barry and Nicki need to give the annual Iowa Youth Survey. This will take place on October 17th. We will dismiss 2nd period 5 minutes earlier that day so all students can go to advisory. The junior class will then take the survey. Advisory may be extended into 3rd period if the survey is not done. Thank you for your cooperation on this. It is something we are required to give. Reminder picture day is the 13th, please have your picture taken when you get to school or after they are set up (you know which category you fall into). I have a Lakes Conference Principal's meeting on the 14th in Spencer and will be gone from 9:30 until 2:30ish. If their is something you are wondering how the other schools in the conference do something let me know and I'll ask. Also, don't forget to get me any new classes you would like to add for next...
