Happy Friday! The first week of May is done! Great job on keeping the students learning. I know we have had lots of distractions this week with all the activities and the science room remodeling. This coming week, the science rooms will have the asbestos removed, then the real noise will begin.
Next Wednesday we will have our second to last extra hour meeting. You will meet in your department PLCs and work on your local assessment or discuss curriculum changes for next year or how your strategy from you last SMART goal turned out.
The seniors will be done with regular class on May 16. On that day, any senior who doesn't need to take a semester test will check out. Semester test will be on May 17 and 18. Mr. Martin has agreed to proctor those test. If you want him to proctor your test for seniors, please give him the test with the students name on it and scantron if needed by May 13. We have told the seniors if they have to take fewer than 4 exams they need to be done on Tuesday. If they have more than 4, they can take the extra ones Wednesday morning. Amy and Beth will be pushing to get senior awards done for Wednesday night. So they may be contacting you to find out a senior's grade so we can finalize the top 10% of the class. Thank you for your assistance in doing this. Senior grades will be stored Wednesday at 3:00 pm. I know this is a short turnaround, but with the awards that night, it needs to be this way. I also will need to notify parents if their child is not going to be able to walk on Sunday.
Place May 18th on your schedule for a 7:45 am meeting with Sandy. She will be going over insurance and other business items for next year. I don't have a location for the meeting yet, but wanted you to be aware of it. Also, don't forget contracts are due May 17th. I will be happy to collect them from you and then turn them into Central Office.
Finally, I will be gone next Tuesday and Wednesday, so if you need a sub please call Neal.

Congrats to Jeanne Rust for being named the Senior Divsion Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award for Iowa for her work with National History Day! She will now be in the running for the National award. After having a son particiapate in this for the first time, she has to have a lot of patience and show a lot of guidance to help the students as they progress through the semester with their projects.

Please congratulate the following students when you see them: Austin Parrott, Ross Curry, Dacia Buss, Samantha Ten Napel, and Riley Eppinga. These 5 students were among 23 students (12 from the middle school), I took to the Book Bash competition in Sioux City April 29. Their team placed 2nd out of 17 high school teams that competed. Book Bash consists of reading titles from a selected list and then answering questions about them to gain the highest scores. The top four at each level go on to the final round. All rounds are timed.
