Happy Friday! I hope the start of second semester has gotten off to a great start for everyone. With the start of the new semester, please be proactive and make contact with parents of students who have struggled in the past. Starting this line of communication early can save everyone stress later in the year when we seem to get really busy. All it takes is a simple phone call to start the ball rolling. 

 We do have a building in-service next week where we will go over the STAR data for the test given this week. The SIT team will be providing copies of some of the data to help ease the process, but you will still want to bring your laptop. You may want to make sure you have your log-in info for the STAR website that morning also. 

 Mr. Borchers and Mrs. Addison are almost done registering students for 16-17. Once that is done, I will meet with each department to go over numbers and sections. 

 I will also be coming around to do our summer maintenance list. Please be thinking if anything needs to be addressed this summer in your classroom.

Staff News

As we start second semester, it is a good time to review some general expectations and procedures.

Expectations: 





  • Be Punctual - Punctuality is a sign of respect.
  • Be Prepared - Prior planning prevents poor performance.
  • Be Present - Be here daily and also in the moment.
  • Be Professional - Professionalism is knowing what to do, how to do it, and doing it in a high quality manner. 
  • Be Positive - To change your situation, change your attitude.
  • Play - Don't take yourself too seriously.

    •  Procedures:





  • Attendance is to be taken daily each period via PowerSchool at the start of class.
  • Update teacher lesson plans on the google site on a weekly basis.
  • Update grades on PowerSchool by 8:30 am on Monday's for the previous week.
  • Please return parent emails and phone calls within 24-48 hours.

    • Staff as Leaders

    Kellie Bork and Mary Westhoff are presenting at the board retreat on the technology they received through the first round of grants last year. 
    Adam Moss and Rhonda Beach will be presenting to the board an update on the CIA part of the TLC grant at the board retreat. 

    Students as Leaders

    We also have three groups of students presenting at the board retreat, they are: Student Council, Robotics Club, and Speech students. They will be letting the board know a little more about their groups and what they have been or will be doing this year. Thank you to their sponsors for organizing and committing your group to speak with the school board.

    Assistant Principal's Corner

    Hope everyone is off to a good start to second semester.  Please remember to review the expectations for attendance this semester with your advisory groups.  Remind them that their attendance will directly affect their opportunities to take semester test this Spring as well as tardies.  This is especially important with Freshman.

     Student council will be sponsoring their annual SWINTER dance on February 12th.  The time of the dance will be from 8-11 pm in Carey gym.  If you are able to help out at the dance, please let me know as soon as possible - your help is always appreciated.

     The following student council members will also be presenting to the school board at the annual board retreat this Monday, January 25th: Madison Martin, Cassidy Utesch, Katrina Engebretson, Charlie Ellis, Madison Parker, and Cole Berkenpas.  They will be sharing their accomplishments for the year, plans for the future, and goals for next year's council.  If you see them in the hallway, please take time to thank them for their service and dedication to the student body, faculty, and community.


    Instructional Coaches' Corner

    If you currently have a television in your room and are interested in having a touch screen monitor to use as a presentation tool, contact Bruce ASAP before you right a technology grant to request one. There is  a possibility you could receive this without the technology grant request for next school year.

      The LCHS large group speech team will be performing at Sioux City East this weekend. LCHS will take 29 groups to contest. We are one of the largest speech teams in our quadrant of the state. If you see a speech student, tell them to "Break a leg!" We are also hosting state contest here at LCHS. If you are looking for a way to get involved, please consider volunteering your time as a time keeper, a door person, or a room chairperson. If you have any questions, please ask Sherri, Jodi, Erin, or me.

      Good luck to the approximately 100 students who will represent LCHS at District Speech Contest tomorrow. LCHS will host State Contest on February 6, and it will be a great opportunity to see some of the best performances in Northwest Iowa.

      Friday Focus  Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week.  On Monday, I attended a DCAP workshop. You may be asking what is a DCAP workshop? DCAP is our District Career Academic Plan. Just like the student ICAP, Individual Career Academic Plan, the district must have one also. In the DCAP, we spell out what we are doing to prepare our students for college career readiness and employability skills. The DCAP consists of 7 sections, the main sections deal with course planning, work-based learning, and 5 essential components of ICAP.  The course planning section deals with the students 4 year plan and how the students and parents are advised on progress towards graduation. This is why we have the grade level registration meetings, our 8th grade CTE day, 8th grade parent meeting, etc so we can meet this requirement.  I am sure by this point, you are asking yourself how does this apply to me?       Friday Focus Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. We made it through graduation breakfast, practice, and award night. I was thinking that Wednesday is just as about as busy of a day as the Friday of homecoming for me.  This will be the last Friday Focus for the school year, so I'll try to remember to have everything you need to know to get through the last week of classes. Please remember contracts are due to Central Office on the 23rd. I do have a basket on my desk where you can turn it into me and I'll get it to Central Office.   We will be running the advisory schedule on Monday. On Tuesday, we will use the last day of school schedule. On the last day of classes students will be checking out. Please sign their check out sheets. If they have school property that needs to be returned, please document it on the sheet. During advisory that day, they will turn in their laptops.       Friday Focus Happy Friday!   I hope everyone has had a great week. Today is midterm of the 1st quarter. Please make sure all grades are up to date. Amy will run midterms and we will hand them out during 8th period.   I have had my first PASS plan turned in, congrats to Ms. Hommes to be the first one to get one done. Unfortuately is is for a senior that needs his credits. Next week is homecoming, let the fun begin. Monday night at 7:30 pm is the coronation. Come out to the competition gym to see who will be crowned this year's King and Queen.  On Monday, we will have class meetings so students can sign up for the different competitions. Freshmen will be in the Little Theater, Sophomores in the Library, Juniors in the Commons, and Seniors in the Competition Gym. Teachers with the asterick by their name in the Teacher Handbook are the lead teachers and will need to take charge of these meetings.  Dress up days for Homecoming Week. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE!...
