Happy Friday! I want to take a moment to address the goal setting and reflections sheets the students are filling out in advisory. Please make sure you take the time to look over the reflections. Especially the last question that asks: Are there some things I can do to help you achieve your goal? When holding a PASS Plan meeting these sheets would be valuable to help focus the meeting on the student’s goals and what he/she wants to accomplish in each class.
At midterm, there are 71 students failing one or more courses. This would be a good time to call home or have a PASS Plan meeting for these students. It is expected one of the two will occur, please refer to Iowa Teaching Standards 1a, 1g, 5b, and 5e. As a parent, I would think you would appreciate this. We do not want them to get into a deeper hole. If it was your child struggling in class, what would you want done?
While I was doing one of my formal observations I had the chance to see a teacher use the app Nearpod. She used it with her students as a formative assessment going over problems. She was able to see the student’s work and then is able to give feedback right away. The student work could also be put on the TV screen so the class could discuss if it is correct or not. Nearpod has a cost to it, but Mr. Collins found another app similar, that is free, called Go Formative.
Just some dates to know: Next advisory, October 5, the students will fill out the back side of the reflection sheet, Week 6 update. There is a evacuation drill on October 7 at 1:20pm, weather permitting. This will be our second drill this semester. Our building in-service meetings will be on October 14 and 28. District in-service is on October 21.
Have a great weekend!

Many of you know how to take a PDF and use Adobe Acrobat to convert it into an editable Microsoft Word document but did you know that you can also do that with Google Drive and Google Docs?

Librarian Corner When doing research and using web-sites, students often do not understand if a website is providing “good” information or not, or if it is even “good” information in the first place. Have them apply the CRAP test (Currency, Reliability, Authority, Purpose). They can view a video or even find a form to fill out at the following link: https://sites.google.com/a/lemarscsd.org/lcs-libraries/home/website-evaluation
