Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had a great week.

I am still on hold on the master schedule with 4 positions currently being advertised. I eventually will need to make some tough decisions on how we will cover classes if we don't get any applicants.

As we are getting 4th quarter going, remember today is the midterm and the last day to have had PASS Plans. Any student at risk of failing your class will need to have a meeting and the form will need to be turned into me so I can document the meeting. You all have access to the spreadsheet if you need to see if I have a form from a meeting you attended. Mrs. Davis will run midterm reports today to have you hand out to your 8th period class.

The seniors are getting closer to graduation. I have several that are failing classes that are needed for graduation. I encouarage you to call home and talk to the parents to let them know what their student needs to get done to pass your class. I am also communicating with parents, but I can't tell them what needs to be done to pass. Seniors final day of class is May 10. They will take semester tests on May 13 and 14. On May 14 all tests need to be done by noon. Senior grades are due at 8:00 am on May 15. This is a hard deadline as Amy will need to run final awards for that night. All seniors will need to have 50 credits at this time or he/she will not be walking at graduation.

I figure I better get info out for the end of the school year. We are going to run semester tests on Friday, May 24, Tuesday, May 28, and Wednesday, May 29. On the 24th, we will have periods 1, 3, and 5. On the 28th, we will have periods 2, 4, and 6. Finally on the 29th, we will have periods 7 and 8. We will run the last day of school schedule on the 23rd and have students report to advisory at 3:10 to turn in computers and clean out lockers. All other classes will be 42 minutes that day.

Have a great weekend,

Mark

Looking Ahead -- Senior Semester Tests

This weekend I plan to run the first list of seniors that will need to take semester tests due to absences.  I hope to release that Sunday evening or Monday morning, and run an updated report every weekend henceforth.  We will wait at least another week to run the report for 9th-11th grade semester tests.  I will include attendance, tardies, and truants.  The grade reporting for your classes will be up to you.

Shout-outs

Mark and I are wrapping up the last of our summative evaluations for teachers on the evaluation cycle this year.  Thank you to all those teachers for their hard work and allowing us into your classrooms.  The evaluation process and our conversations surrounding teaching and learning during the post-observation conferences has been a highlight of my year.  Those kinds of discussions are a “happy place” for me.  I hope you found the process enlightening, as well.

Showing You Care

Deep thoughts ahead.  When I stepped away from LCHS, one thing I realized was that it is a huge parental advantage to be in the same system as my kids.  I didn’t understand that because I was always on the “inside”.   I’ve have friends who are scared to send their children to school, because it is a “black box”-- they don’t know what goes on behind the walls, which can cause fear and distrust.  I experienced some of that for the first time during that period.

This week I had the opportunity to accompany our eldest child on his first college visit.  Those anxieties came up again -- Who is going to look after him?  Are these decent people?  What will he be learning? Etc., etc.  I was comforted by the visit with a small department at the large university, his grandparents will be 45 minutes away, we know other people in the town, etc.

One personal takeaway for me was this:  Parents just want to make sure someone is looking out for their kid, and that their child has an adult that cares for them. This is true for the parents that send their children to us, as well. So, if you have the opportunity to write a positive note this time of year, please don’t hesitate to do so.

Keep being awesome!  Let's finish well, together.
Adam
