Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week! Next week will be midterm of the 3rd quarter. It is hard to believe how fast this semester is already moving. Today the girls wrestling team will be attempting to qualify for state wrestling tournament. Their regional sight is at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City.  Before we know it, ISASP will be quickly on us. We want to start stressing to students the importance of these scores. Please talk about how we have been designated as a target school. Talk about what it means to be targeted. Talk to them about why it is important that they do their best on this test. You can share with them the Iowa School Performance profile and show how scores are figured out. Tell them about what this means for them. If you need some talking points, please see me and I would be happy to assist you. Whatever we do though, we need the students to understand how the state uses this data and what it means for them....

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the snow day yesterday and the 2 hour late start today. According to my calculations, this puts up to 45 hours missed.  We are now a couple weeks into the new semester. If you have students that need additional help, we do have room in the success center. Please let Kyle or myself know if you have a student that you think would benefit being in there. As I said in my previous email, you can carry over PASS Plans from last semester. However, if you were not a part of the original PASS Plan, then you will need to have a meeting to set up a plan for your class.  Midterm of 3rd quarter will be quickly upon us. Please make sure all grades are up to date as Amy will run midterms on Friday, Feb. 3. These will be handed out during 8th period that day.  I would like to congratulate Mr. Van Kley for moving into the instructional coach role next school year. He will be missed in the classroom, but ...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great full week of school. I will be out of the building today as Tanner was selected to represent Midwestern swimming at the All-Star swim meet in Des Moines this weekend. He will be swimming against other all-star teams from Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa.  As we move forward in second semester our district inservice time will have a little different focus in February. Steve McHugh, from Northwest AEA will be presenting strategies the our CIA team thought would be valuable after attending the SIOP training. SIOP stands for Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol. This is the framework for planning and delivering instruction to English language learners as well as other students. The special education teachers started on a new journey on Wednesday, learning more about SDI (Specially Designed Instruction). CIA will come out with more details regarding the February inservice dat...

Happy Friday! This has been a rough start to semester 2. Hopefully the weather starts cooperating so we don't have many more late start/no school days. By my count, we are at 35.5 hrs. missed. As we start second semester, it is important to get students started in the right direction. For those students who struggled first semester, please don't wait too long to reach out to their parents to make arrangements to get extra help. We do have room in the success center during a few periods, so also don't be afraid to refer students to Kyle or I to be placed in the success center.  Some formalities to go through as we start the semester. Please go over the lockdown/lockout/shelter/evac info with your students. Remind them of the ALICE procedures that we should use if ever the need shall arise. Also I want to take the time to remind you of FERPA. I will be sending an article that was in the SAI newsletter this month that discusses FERPA and who has rights to st...
