Happy Friday, I hope everyone has had a great week. Just a reminder that requisitions for 22-23 school year need to be completed. I will start scheduling number meetings next week. Judd and Melissa have done a great job getting the students registered for next year. At the time I am writing this, only 8 students have not registered out of 698.
We will be offering some new electives next year. Officer Vickery will be teaching an Intro to Criminal Justice class 2nd semester, Mr. Prichard will be teaching Music Appreciation and Music Theory w/Ear Training/Sight Singing. There will also be an Applied Music class that will work as an independent study course where the student will have a recital. Another new elective next year will be Business Ethics and will be taught by Mrs. Wright.
We do have some people moving to different positions next year, Mr. Bork will be taking over at the Alternative School for Mrs. Theisen, Mrs. Schindel is moving into the new Special Education position, and Mrs. Boeve will be taking over for Mr. Bork in PE and Health. We are currently advertising for Mrs. Boeve's sped position. We will be interviewing History candidates this afternoon, so hopefully we will be able to name Mr. Fitzgerald's replacement soon. We did hire 2 new English teachers, Jocelyn Hommes will replace Mrs. Permeswaran. Ms. Hommes comes to us from South Hamilton High School. She received her undergraduate degree from Drake and her master degree from Southern New Hampshire University. Taking over for Mrs. Schindel is Alison Ruba. Alison is joining us from Spencer High School. Mrs. Ruba earned her undergraduate degree from Iowa State.
Looking ahead, we have an evac drill scheduled for 2:05 pm on 2/24 (weather permitting). I will be out of the building Thursday morning for an ICAP training.
Have a great three day weekend!
Assistant Principal's Happenings
A nice three-day weekend coming up with some much needed snow on the way Monday and Tuesday. The Trimester only has six days left so we are entering the busy part of the year with grading and keeping students accountable for behavior. I had quite a few discipline referrals this past week and I am happy to help when students chose to make poor decisions even if it doesn't come to the level of needing consequences. I know I may be missing a few kids so if there are any that I have forgotten to discuss with you please send me a reminder. Hopefully, everyone can get some rest and get over some of these illnesses that have been hanging around including in my house.
A concern with attendance reports has been reoccurring recently. We have several students that may be sick but we haven't heard from a parent so they should be marked truant. One student the other day was only marked out 3 class periods but was gone all day and many others are missing 2 or 3 classes. Also, please make sure you update attendance when students come to class. The office doesn't change truants after writing passes because we want to make sure the students actually make it to class.
I want to start the next round of teacher evaluations over the next couple of weeks. Please send me some class periods and dates that will work. Also, keep your goal areas in mind as those are what I would like to focus on during the lessons.
One area I mentioned last week was students overusing their restroom privileges. I had about 10 comments or emails about the group I was referring to the next couple of days so please keep them in class whenever possible.
