November 8, 2019
Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a great week. As we close out our first full week in November, Thanksgiving Break will quickly be approaching. For those of you who have trimester classes, the trimester ends next Friday. Grades will be due on Tuesday, November 19 at 8:30 am. I will then store grades.
We do have our building inservice on Wednesday. Please bring your laptop to the library. We will spend the first part looking at our ISASP data. The GREAT news is that our building scored well. We were above 80% proficient in all areas. This is something you should be very proud about. The data conversations will look a little different this year and I'll go over the various data sources. We will not have test questions or know what questions the students missed. At this time ISASP does not provide this.
I would like to give a plug for the fall play coming up next week. Performances will be on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. You can buy your tickets in the office or at the door. The students always put on an excellent performance, so I encourage you to bring the family out and enjoy the play.
Have a great weekend!

Do your students need to use sound effects for a project they are building? Try findsounds.com I was quite surprised how many different categories there were to choose from. While I did come across a couple of broken links I'm glad I continued to search the sounds. That turned out to be an exception and not the rule.
Have you ever wanted to learn more about Google Sheets but didn't know where to start? Try here! Google has made this 5 hour workshop free.
The last tidbit I leave you with is a video lasting just shy of 2 mintues by Joe Sanfelippo. The message is "Every Interaction Matters." These words ring so true.

Students as Leaders
Congrats to Mr. Fischer and the students who took the written test at the DMAC Skills day competition. The team placed 6th and is invited back on December 13 for the hands on portion of the contest. Students representing Le Mars are: Brenick Hoppe, Tate Hogrefe, Caleb Jungers, Luis Paez, Andrew Murra, and Kaden Nemmers.
Assistant Principal's Happenings
Veteran's Day is Monday. During Advisory, we will have a short observance at the start of that class. Maddi Pippett will be reading the Presidential Proclamation and we will have TAPS played and we will have some choir students sing the National Anthem over the intercom. It should take less than 10 minutes.
Please make sure you are doing Pass Plans with students. We have had very few and are concerned teachers are not reaching out to parents. Any student that is at risk of failing your class should have that completed before Thanksgiving which is already Mid-Term. If you need assistance in setting those up please let me know. I would expect any student who failed the first quarter, should have already had a pass plan with you by this point in the semester.
I will be out of the office on Thursday, the 14th, but I will have my phone on me all day so please reach out if you need to on anything. Hopefully, the snow on Wednesday was all we get for a while. I enjoyed the reactions from students when Mr. Eckstaine went into Mr. Bahr's room and tried to convince them we were already calling a 2-hour delay.

Notes from the Librarian
The video media class is learning how to work with audio and do interviews now. (We just got mics in late Wed. night). They are currently creating a commercial for the upcoming play and for the blood drive at the end of the month. If you have an event, you would like featured or advertised via video, please let me know. Ideally, 7-10 in advance is best. For those of you who allowed them to video in your classes early this year, thank you! Here is the short video they put together to feature at the last home game: A Day at LCHS
Success Center Update
I thought this was an interesting comment: "Keep in mind that the vast majority of students don't want you to help them because you have to - and for good reason. They want you to help them because you want to - and they don't want to be part of your job. So never say you're doing something to help any students because its "your job" or what you're "getting paid to do" - even if it's true. You'll find young people will approach you more and trust you more if you don't. And students follow your lead quicker if they believe you're helping them because you are interested in them and because you really want to, not because it's your job" (The Master Teacher, 2019, Volume 51, No. 10).

If you have your own New Google Site you now have a new tool in your toolbox --you can insert collapsible text boxes into your site.
