Happy Friday! We made it through night 1 of conferences, night 2 will be on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. This is a great time to schedule a PASS Plan meeting. So far, I have not had any turned into me. Remember that these need to be done prior to 2nd quarter midterm.
I have been going through the Fierce Conversations class through the AEA to renew my evaluator license. I have learned a lot about myself and the ways I have handled different types of conversations. I have found that I have some of my own behaviors to work on to become better at this skill. My biggest behavior to work on is turning off everything else so I can be present for you when we are having a conversation. I would like to apologize to any of you who may have felt that I wasn't fully engaged when we have talked.
Looking ahead, we have an extra hour meeting on the 9th and our district inservice on the 16th. On October 10, the high school will be a satellite for the Ed Thomas Leadership Workshop that is in Parkersburg. Our Lead Dog group, under the direction of Gabe Davis, will be hosting this. Our group will be attending along with an additional 100 students from schools across Northwest Iowa. In all, there will be 150 students in the Little Theater.
Just an observation from our evacuation drill. Please make sure your classroom door is shut when you leave the building. Get your attendance taken quickly and report it to the appropriate person. If you exit the main entrance, you report to Mr. Eckstaine; if you exit out by the guidance area, you report to Mrs. Permswaran; if you exit out by the weight room, you report to Mrs. Carter; if you exit out to behind the band room, you report to Mr. Prichard; and if you exit to the parking lot, you report to Ms. James. These people will then report to Mrs. Davis. Mrs. Davis works with Mrs. Collins to make sure everyone is accounted for. The accountability is what takes the longest.
Have a great weekend!

Many of us use Google Forms in our classrooms. Do you know about these 5 Google Form Features? 1--Go To Section Based On Answer, 2--When you make a Google Form have the questions be required and a certain point value be default settings, 3--Use the confirmation message to give your students instructions when they finish, 4--Import questions from previous Google Forms, 5--Installing an Add-On. If you would like to learn how to do any or all of the above mentioned things click here. (Here are directions to Certify'em Add-on---the example from the video)
And last but not least, some information about passwords. To stay secure online, Password Checkup has your back. Password Checkup is a new feature built into Google's Password Manager that checks the strength and security of all of your saved passwords, tells you if Google finds that they’ve been compromised (for example, in a breach), and gives you personalized, actionable recommendations when needed.

Great first night of Conferences! I attended several meetings and IEP's during that time but when I could roam around it was nice to meet some parents and start making more connections to this area. Several I talked to knew families from Reinbeck, so it is great to see how even small towns in the middle of Iowa have connections up here. I'm hopeful I can be able to get around more on Tuesday to meet some more families.
As mentioned above, please keep working on pass plans with kids. This is essential if we truly want all kids to succeed. It isn't always easy with every student but we need to do what we can to help all of them out.
I have been cracking down on tardies lately- I brought several students notices that have reached the 7+ tardies for the year and have had them serving time. Please make sure you carry about consequences for tardies number 5 and 6 as they should be serving with you and parents should be getting a phone call home. If you have students you are concerned about with this please come talk to me as several of you have already. I hope you all enjoy your Friday after the long Conference night and have a great weekend as well!

Notes from the Librarian
Jill Brown presented an excellent inservice on anticipatory sents and engaging students. Creating Snackable Content provides tips and more on creating these "chunks" to keep the students' interest.
October 25 is the last home game, and my students need some footage from classrooms prior to that week. If you have anything going on that you think would be great to put in a "Life at LCHS" video, please contact me ASAP. They are still learning skills, and the more practice the better. Class is 4th hour, but some of the students have study halls or opens in which they can film too.

Tracy's Technology Tidbits.
Are you a Quizizz user? Did you see the most recent updates? 1--At least once per game (if the setting is on), a phoenix will swoop in to give students another chance at a question. 2--The new points system encourages accuracy instead of rewarding the fastest fingers. 3--The Streak Meter replaces the timer bar on student screens so learners stay focused on finding the right answer. 4-- Read Aloud has been made simpler to use across all devices and it looks cooler than ever. This can be toggled on in student device settings. Many of us use Google Forms in our classrooms.
