Happy Friday! Looks like another decent weekend. We are getting closer to our ISASP dates, so I'll include the schedule here one more time. On April 3, we will be meeting in the library at 7:30 to go over testing procedures. I did email you the schedule with a link to the handbook. It will be helpful if you have looked that over prior to the 3rd. That day is also our extra hour day, so you can use the first half hour to work on your curriculum. We will try to answer any questions you have at that time. Since this is our first time going administering this test and being online, I am sure we will need to meet after we are done to go over positives and negatives and see what we can do better next time.

Just some dates to keep an eye on: April 1 - ALEKS placement test for college math courses, April 3 - extra hour meeting, April 3 - EVAC drill 11:00 am, April 10 - district in-service, April 11 - 13 - Spring play, April 16 midterm grades are due (this is a few days earlier as I want to give some seniors a final warning), April 17 - extra hour meeting,

Good Luck to the Jazz Band as they play at the Iowa Jazz Championships on Tuesday.

On April 5, students in the electromechanical course will be touring Sabre Industries.

Assistant Principal's Happenings

As we continue to work during the Spring weather, it is most important right now that we continue to stay positive and to push our students to work hard till the end of the year.
1. Be prepared for class - make lessons run more smoothly and cause yourself less stress with great planning.
2. Create organized lessons and keep in mind that another teacher should be able to come in and teach for you without difficulties if you are well organized and planned.
3. Do not be afraid to laugh at yourself especially when you make mistakes - own them and show your students that you are human and mistakes are designed for learning!
4. Provide lots of encouragement and reteaching.  Getting upset with your students who are unable to understand new things is not productive.  Keep encouraging them to succeed!

Resources of all kinds - notes from the Librarian

Timelines can be tedious to read and to create, but did you you know there are some fun teaching ideas which utilize timelines in order to have students use higher order thinking skills. Read this blog Deeper Thinking Skills for more information.

Instructional Coach's Technology Tidbits

picfont.com is a great resource to make slides. graphics, logos, posters and documents. Simply upload your image and then add your text. At that point you have quite a few options of what you can do with the text on the image (glow, font, curve, color, etc). This is a desktop only tool. It will not work on a mobile device.

Did you know that you don't have to have automatic capitalization in Google Slides, Drawings, or Docs? While editing a document, go to Tools → Preferences and uncheck Automatically capitalize words.

After seeing several high school students Google Drives I feel like we need to teach all of our students this trick. Do a search in GoogleDrive for Untitled Document. Left click to highlight the document. Press P to preview the document quickly. Now press ESC to exit out of the preview. Press N to rename so now it's named!

I haven't decided how I feel about this one. If you really like it let me know (and what you like about it). YellKey generates short URLs with common English words. The URLs only work for a short period of time, but they are easy to pronounce and type. It's great for when you want to get others onto the same long URL on the spur of the moment. http://www.yellkey.com
