Happy Friday! Today is the first day of the 2nd quarter. Grades are due on Monday at 8:00 am. Report cards will be printed and mailed out that day. Please make sure you are following the grading policy. The policy does not allow extra credit. While I was running some of the grade reports, I noticed some students had grades over 100%. This is not possible under our grading policy. Giving optional quizzes/assignments/projects that allow students to raise their grade but exempt others is viewed as extra credit. These practices can not happen as grades are to indicate a students level of learning, by giving extra points, the grade now indicates behaviors and not student learning. When you are looking at a student's grade and there may be an outlier in his/her scores, it is fine to exclude an outlier. This is a common practice when dealing with data, which grades are. An example would be if a student had summative scores of 95, 92, 90, 89, 98, 73, 100, 95, and 96; the 73 could be seen a...

Happy Friday! I hope everyone has had an excellent week. Next week marks the end of first quarter. Second quarter begins on Friday, with first quarter grades due on Monday, Oct. 29. When I ran our "F" list, it showed 99 students are failing one or more classes right now. Many of the students were put into the success center or had their opens removed. The success center will assist the student, but you still need to insist the student comes before or after school to get extra help. If a student is not following the PASS Plan, you will need to call home to the parent to communicate that. We need to be persistent, and almost wear the student down so he/she complies with what we want from them.  I will be out of the office all day today as I will be assisting in the approval of Ag programs in our region.  Looking ahead, we have our extra hour meeting on Wednesday. Please don't forget to change the time for the November 28 extra-hour meeting. We will meet from 4:00 to 5:0...

Happy Friday! Where has this week gone? We are quickly moving towards the end of the 1st quarter. The quarter ends on October 25. Report cards will be printed on October 29 at 8:30 am. Grades will need to be completed prior to that. Please make sure you make all comments under quarter 1. If a student is at-risk in your class, I expect you will include comments on those students.  We have had a rash of vaping and cigarette use in the classrooms and bathrooms this week. Our smoker is hitting the restroom during 2nd or 3rd period. Please keep track of who is leaving your classroom. If you have someone that has gone to the bathroom the same time the last two days during this period let Mr. Utesch know this. Looking ahead, we have our district in-service next week. On Oct. 22, we will have our anti-bullying assembly. Our assembly will start at 2:30, so the office will announce when to dismiss out of 7th period. It will be sometime around 2:20. Our second building in-service thi...

Happy Friday! You all survived the long parent/teacher conference week! Thank you for all you do to help our students achieve. Many times your hard work goes unnoticed by the parents/students, but it is appreciated by all. This would be good time to think about and nominate one of your peers for employee of the month. Forms can be found  here ; scroll down and find the form towards the bottom of the page. Looking ahead, we have our extra-hour meeting on Wednesday. This will be in your departments continuing the work from the last in-service. The district in-service date is on October 19. Our second meeting building time will be on October 26. If you haven't gotten me your new course proposals yet, please do so by November 1. We are already planning our registration and 8th grade career day. Hard to believe we start this early, but this does allow us to get schedules to students before they leave for the summer and allow them to make changes sooner.  The college fair i...
