Happy Friday and one more week closer to spring break.
On April 3 during advisory, Youth on Main Street will be here to speak to the sophomores in the Little Theater. Please have the sophomores report down there. I also will need the teachers that have sophomores for advisory to report there. Please sit with the students around the little theater.
Iowa Assessments will be on April 4-6. We will run the formative assessment schedule that is in the student handbook on those days.
We have our building in-service times on April 5 and 19. Like the past meetings, please work on curriculum work. The district professional development day is April 26.
Congrats to the music students for their performance at individual small group ensemble Saturday. They had numerous students earn division 1 ratings. Band students earned 27 I's, 7 II's, and 1 III. Choir students earned 28 I's, 24 II's, and 2 III's. Orchestra students earned 5 I's, 3 II's, and 3 III's.
On Tuesday night, 60 students were inducted into the National Honor Society. The guest speaker was Darrin Raymond. Mrs. Addison and Mr. Borchers did a great job organizing the officers and putting on the ceremony. Thank you to those who serve on the Faculty Council. They are Rhonda Beach, Tami Dunn, Terry Fitzgerald, Shawn Starr, Mary Westhoff, and Mark Zeka. With two of these members leaving please consider helping with this group.
Looking ahead, the spring play is April 20-22. Please take the time to reserve one of these nights to check out the production. Mrs. Ohrlund and crew always put on an excellent show.
On Wednesday night the Board of Education decided May 25 will be the last day of school for the students. Semester test will then be May 24 and 25.
One last item, during one of our evacuation drills, Chief Schipper noticed some teachers did not take their attendance books with them. That led to Neal and I discussing the evacuation procedure and what safety checks we actually have in place to ensure all students are out of the building. I am looking for volunteers to serve as lead teachers at the different evacuation points. I would need someone at the main entrance, guidance entrance, student parking lot, behind weight room, and behind new addition area (practice football field). The lead teacher would be informed about who is missing and who they have extra from the other teachers. They would then text Mrs. Davis who they are missing and who is extra. From there we can then start to account for students. In order to do this, we need to make sure everyone stays with their teacher/class. I ask that you inform students of this and when we have a drill enforce this procedure. Neal and I will be pulling students to spot check that attendance is being taken and communicated with the leaders and then to Mrs. Davis. If you are interested or willing to be one of the leaders, please let me know. I will also use the leaders to communicate instructions, like you may re-enter or if we need to move students to another location because there is a fire.
Have a great weekend!
Also, on April 6 the Robotics team will be presenting at the ISEA Delegate Assembly.
Fake news continues to be in the spotlight, especially after the 60 Minutes episode Sunday night on CBS. While I teach the basics in 6th grade, it is something we all need to remphasize to our students. A webpage with great tips is on Easybib.
