Happy Friday! Only 4 more school days next week until a much deserved Christmas break. This will be my last Friday Focus for the year, so I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

On Monday, I need to have the Seniors vote during advisory for class color, flower, and motto. We will not have an episode of The Harbor on Monday.

Thursday we get out at 2:30. The morning classes will be normal with the afternoon classes shortened. The students who pay the dollar for Children's theater will be dismissed around 1:30 by the office. I will be coming around to ask some of you to watch doors so students don't bug out. During our last assembly, we had a few who decided they would rather be someplace else.

When we come back on Tuesday, January 3, we will have advisory. The next round of the STAR assessments has been moved to the week after semester test. I will let you know when that has been completed, so you can take a look at the data.

Have a great weekend!

Congrats to Judy Zeka on finishing her Master's Degree. She will be graduating on Saturday!

Congrats to Cassie Jacobsen and her husband as they are expecting their first child!

Leann Hobson will be leaving us after the new year to help with their new grandson. Congrats to Leann and family and thank you for all your years of service!

Students as Leaders

Tyler Holzman and Deven Paulsen will represent LCHS at the DMACC Auto Skills competition on today. Jason Stoll will attend as an alternate.

Assistant Principal's News

Only a few more days left before our break!  Thank you for your patience with students and your continued effort to keep them engaged and working hard.  Reminder to staff that hats are not allowed in the building.  Please remind students to take them off when you see them - this includes any area that class is taking place (ex: TI, Ag Building, Main HS Building, Weight Room)

Thank you to everyone for your contributions to our student council efforts during the first semester.  We have an ambitious group of students this year and without your support we would not see the success that we have had.

Congratualtions to all our students.  Each grade level made their goal for Christmas coins this year on time and have earned a double open lunch on our last day before break, Thursday, December 22nd.

If you like magnetic poetry kits then check out this wintertime magnetic poetry kit  that uses Google Drawings to make it happen.

Have you considered applying for a National Geographic Teaching Fellowship Experience? Selected educators will travel aboard the ships National Geographic Explorer, National Geographic Endeavour II, and National Geographic Sea Lion on expeditions to regions including the Arctic, British and Irish Isles, Canadian Maritimes, Iceland, the Galapagos, Antarctica and more. While aboard, Fellows will share the importance of geographic literacy with fellow travelers, develop activities to bring back to their classrooms, and have an adventure of a lifetime. Prior to the expedition, all 2017 Grosvenor Teacher Fellows will travel to Washington, D.C. (March 23-26, 2017) with all expenses covered to participate in a pre-voyage workshop sponsored by Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic. The application closes December 31, 2016.

Here is an interesting concept: using Google Sheets to provide random Emojis as writing prompts.

Google recently launched App Maker. It is their low-code, drag and drop app building product. It is designed for anybody to be able to easily design a basic app to serve a specific purpose inside an organization.

Google's Photoscan is advertised as, "Photos from the past, meet scanner from the future." It allows you to scan the photos with your phone and then house the results in Google Photos app. You even have advanced editing controls.

Here is another neat use of Google Drawings--play digital checkers or digital chess.
