Happy Friday! Only 4 more school days next week until a much deserved Christmas break. This will be my last Friday Focus for the year, so I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. On Monday, I need to have the Seniors vote during advisory for class color, flower, and motto. We will not have an episode of The Harbor on Monday.  Thursday we get out at 2:30. The morning classes will be normal with the afternoon classes shortened. The students who pay the dollar for Children's theater will be dismissed around 1:30 by the office. I will be coming around to ask some of you to watch doors so students don't bug out. During our last assembly, we had a few who decided they would rather be someplace else.  When we come back on Tuesday, January 3, we will have advisory. The next round of the STAR assessments has been moved to the week after semester test. I will let you know when that has been completed, so you can take a look at the data. Hav...

Happy Friday and another week closer to Christmas break. I would like to thank all of you for cheering for an Oklahoma victory last Saturday, it really paid off as they won their 10th Big 12 Championship and 46th Conference Championship.  Next week we have a district in-service day on Wednesday. Your groups' CIA members will be sending out an agenda, if they haven't already, before then.  I would like to take this time to discuss/remind why we are doing this curriculum work. One of the best ways to increase student achievement is to have a clear curriculum that is the same for every student. Those of you who teach common classes, need to assure that all students, no matter their teacher, receive the same curriculum. When I say the same curriculum, I am not implying you have to teach the class the exact same way, but you do need to have the same essential learnings, texts, and writing assignments.  As we move through our curriculum work, we will be creating the comm...

Happy Friday and Happy December! We are now through the 2nd qtr mid term and will be drawing this semester to a close quickly. Semester test are January 11-13. The 11th and 12th will be the main test days with the 13th being a make up day.  Thank you to those who scheduled PASS Plan meetings the past couple of weeks. I know some of the meetings were hard to schedule with parents not wanting to come in. I appreciate your efforts to help all of our students achieve at high levels. Continue to push our students, it is a good thing to have the students struggle with the content. We do not want to lower our standards to make it so they don't struggle. The more the student struggles with the material, the more it will be ingrained into his/her long-term memory. Just continue to provide the extra help to those who lack the confidence or background knowledge to reach the standards.  Looking ahead, we do have another extra hour meeting next week on December 7. You will continue t...

Happy Friday! This edition of the Friday Focus will cover the next couple of weeks as I won't be sending one out next week. So I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and break. Safe travels to everyone who has to hit the road.  We have several students who are at the All-State Music Festival in Ames today and Saturday. We wish them luck in the performance on Saturday.  We are getting into the Winter sports season now, so if you haven't reminded students about the make-up work policy, this would be a good time to do it. Midterm will be on November 30 for 2nd quarter. Beth and Amy will be mailing home the midterms that day, please have grades updated by 8:00 am. Barry and Nicki will be getting into classrooms to talk to the students about registration for next year. We will start having students register in the next couple of weeks. Once we get the students request, we will meet to go over sections. Have a great weekend! Mark Staff News Mr. Moss will be back M...

Happy Friday! As we draw another week to a close, we are getting closer and closer to Thanksgiving Break. This time will go by fast, so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that midterm is on November 30th. Students should have 1st quarter incompletes made up unless circumstances dictate they get more time. Please email Mr. Utesch or myself the updated letter grade and percentage so we can change it in historical grades in PowerSchool. Next week we have district in-service on Wednesday. Your CIA members in charge of your group will send out instructions.  If you are not doing anything tonight or tomorrow night, come and check out the musical. The students and directors have been working hard in order to put on another great show.  Our CTE teachers had their annual advisory night where they presented their critical competencies, 3rd party assessments, and a classroom data. Some groups had students make presentations to their advisory group. A thank you goes out to ...

Happy Friday! We are now a few days in November. This is the time of year that seems to really move, 2 1/2 weeks to Thanksgiving and then another 4 weeks until Christmas break. We have our extra hour meeting on Wednesday. You will continue working on your curriculum that goes along with the district pd days.  With the next two months being a little hectic with vacations this causes our PD days to be in a different pattern, please note that our 2nd early morning meeting in November is on November 30th. Our December days will be the week before and after the district PD days.  I have had a few more PASS plans turned into me. Remember if a student is at-risk these need to be done. Midterm for 2nd quarter is November 30th. All PASS Plans should be completed by this date at the latest. The guidance office is getting ready for registration for next year. They will be speaking to grades 8-11 in the next couple of weeks. We have added few new classes for next year, Mr. Starr ...
