Happy Friday! Looks like another decent weekend. We are getting closer to our ISASP dates, so I'll include the schedule here one more time. On April 3, we will be meeting in the library at 7:30 to go over testing procedures. I did email you the schedule with a link to the handbook. It will be helpful if you have looked that over prior to the 3rd. That day is also our extra hour day, so you can use the first half hour to work on your curriculum. We will try to answer any questions you have at that time. Since this is our first time going administering this test and being online, I am sure we will need to meet after we are done to go over positives and negatives and see what we can do better next time.  Just some dates to keep an eye on: April 1 - ALEKS placement test for college math courses, April 3 - extra hour meeting, April 3 - EVAC drill 11:00 am, April 10 - district in-service, April 11 - 13 - Spring play, April 16 midterm grades are due (this is a few days earlier as I wa...

Happy Friday! I hope you have the chance to enjoy some nice temperatures this weekend.  During our April 3 extra hour meeting we will meet in the library at 7:30 to go over the ISASP one last time so we are all on the same page. Melissa will give you the run down on how the test will be administered and hand out materials you will need.  We have heard feedback from one school regarding the ISASP and that was the writing test took them longer than the 2 hours. The writing test does have 3 parts to it, a grammar test and then 2 writing prompts. They moved everyone along together, so once everyone finished the first part, then they all moved on to the next. We do have 8th period scheduled after the test, so we do have an additional 30 minutes if we need it. What I will request is that when your advisory is done with the test on Wednesday to notify the office so we can monitor when everyone is done. If we get to the end of the 2 hours and not every advisory is done then...

Happy Friday! Looks like we should have some drier weather here for the next few days, which will be a nice break. Grades will be due on Tuesday now at 8:00 am. We will run report cards then. Advisory this week will take place in the competition gym. We will be recognizing students for their achievements so far this school year, and a certain Social Studies teacher in room 101 will get to kiss a pig. I have had a couple of questions about retakes recently and I wanted to make sure we are all the same page. If a student is retaking an assessment, the entire assessment may be given as the retake or only have them do the part of the assessment they did poorly on. You can't make sections of a test off limits to retakes, that kind of defeats the mentality that a student can learn the material better. The purpose of a test is to see what a student has learned. If the student works harder and learns the material to a higher degree, then he/she can retake the test. If it is a habitual ...

Happy Friday! Looks like another lovely Iowa weekend. Thank you for all the follow up questions on the ISASP. I know we will have some bugs that will need to be worked out and issues will arise on the test day. If it is a technology issue, Bruce will have someone in the building the day of the tests so please buzz the office and we will get assistance to you. If it is any other issue, please be patient as we try to remedy issues as they arise. A few questions I had asked about the ISASP after people left and I felt everyone should hear the answers.  Q1. What about the student who failed Freshmen English last year and is in both Freshmen and Sophomore English this year?  A1. The student will just test during Sophomore English. During Freshmen English send him/her to study hall. Please let Susan know if you are sending a student there.  Q2. What about the student honor code that needs to be developed? A2. I will work with Judd and Melissa to come up with somethi...

Happy Friday! We made it through another cold week. Hopefully the forecast will start looking more and more spring like.  We have now completed 2/3 of the school year as we wrapped our our 2nd trimester this week. The third quarter ends on March 15, 2 weeks from today. Third quarter grades will be due on March 18 at 8:30 am. Beth and Amy will print report cards and Mr. Utesch will go through the academically ineligible list that day. If you are giving a student an incomplete, please make sure you include a deadline in the comments.  I will be meeting with seniors that are at-risk of not graduating and updating their parent(s). If you have a senior that may not be failing, but you are worried about, please send me the name and I'll talk with him/her as well.  Thank you to those that have scheduled PASS Plan meetings. remember to get these done sooner than later. Meetings need to be held prior to April 17.  As we start to head into the spring season, students...
