Happy Friday! We have almost made it through the month of September.  Just a reminder we have conferences on Monday and Thursday next week. I have been asked about doing PASS plans during conferences by a few staff members. This would be a good time to schedule this meeting with parents. If you schedule a PASS Plan, please let Amy Davis know so she doesn't make any reservations for you at that time.  Monday, Jostens will be here to meet with the Sophomores and Seniors. We will try to keep this to advisory, but the Senior meeting most likely will spill over into third period.  Staff News Please keep Doug Martin and his family in your thoughts ad his sister passed away this week. Staff as Learners Mary Westhoff, Lori Carter, Kurt Van Kley, and Shane Hessenius will be attending a math workshop at the AEA in Sioux City today. This is the first of three sessions throughout the year. Jill Bomgaars is attending the Iowa World Language Association Conference on...

Happy Friday! It is Homecoming week is almost over, however this is the busiest day of the week. If you are not doing anything tonight, I am sure Mr. Utesch wouldn't mind having more help at the dance. Reminder we will dismiss after 4th period today, the pep rally/coronation will begin at 1:00 with the parade following. If you are on float clean up, please make sure everything is put into the dumpster behind the school. Today is midterm for the 1st Quarter, please make sure grades are updated as progress reports will be sent out Monday. Beth and Amy will run them at 9:00 am. Thank you for your patience this week. I know homecoming is busy and their are lots of distractions for the students. You may have seen a new face around the building as Angela Nilles has started working here and the middle school. She is from Plains Area and here to work with our students who are dealing with issues that Barry and Nicki may not have the time to work with. If you know of a student who...

Happy Friday! It is Homecoming next week. Hopefully the students will get a chance to see you all dress up for the different days. Thank you for your flexibility during homecoming, we may see this as a distraction, but most students still enjoy it. Remember to have fun with them at this time. It is a great way to build those relationships. I would like to thank Mrs. Dunn for inviting other teachers in to observe her class. It was fun to see the students figure out how to do the lab. You could actually see it on their faces once it clicked. Just a reminder if you would like to potentially offer a new course next year, please get proposals to me by Nov. 1. If approved, Mrs. Addison will get them in the course description booklet. In your proposals, I will need to know if you would need textbooks and if so, what is the cost of the book. I also want to know why you want to teach this class, how many students you believe will be interested in the course, and if the course will suppor...

Happy Friday! Thank you for helping getting the school year off to a great start. I have seen lots of great activities going on in the classrooms, keep it up! Some of the students are starting to test the waters, so keep on them now so they know they have to perform. It will make the year run more smoothly. Congrats goes out to Mrs. Beach on receiving the Employee of the Month award from the Foundation! Very well deserved. Reminder we have our first building in-service on Wednesday, September 14. During this first meeting your group will have three tasks to complete. 1. Go over your group norms from last year and make revisions if necessary. 2. Create a Tier 2 plan either individually or as a group. 3. Create your short term SMART goals. You will meet in your small groups. We have not finalized our building PD plan yet as we are waiting for the board to approve the district plan. Our building plan will mirror the work you are doing in the district. If you are looking for othe...

Happy Friday! You all survived the first full week of school and have earned a nice three day weekend. The English teachers gave a pre-assessment in the STAR Reading program this week. With that data, you should be able to see what level and areas where your students struggle. Then you can incorporate strategies in your class that will improve these weak areas. Mrs. Zeka will send out a reminder on how to look at the data. Neal and I will look at the data and start moving kids out of study hall and into the Success Center that were identified as needing urgent intervention. Those on the intervention list will be monitored and tested at midterm again. During advisory on Tuesday, please do the goal sheets. We will not be watching "The Harbor" yet; that will start on September 12. You will want to make sure you get channel 3 on your TV. If you do not, you may need to rescan your channels. When the TV's were set up, channel 3 wasn't working so the tuner skipped righ...
