LCHS Friday Focus

Happy Friday! Looking ahead to next week we have our district in-service on Wednesday and our building fire inspection on Thursday. Chief Schipper, Mike, and myself will be walking around checking things out. I am sure he will walk into your rooms to check them out regardless if you are having class or not. Just a heads us, we do get out early on Tuesday, November 21 at 2:30. If you are looking for something to do tonight or tomorrow, come and watch the play, "Just Another Snow Day". Start time is 7:00 pm in the Little Theater. The students tell me it is going to be an awesome show! In our cabinet meetings, we are doing a book study on "Poor Students, Rich Teaching Mindsets for Change" by Eric Jensen. I learned several things about poverty that I didn't consider before. According to the book, "poverty is a chronic experience resulting from an aggregate of adverse social and economic risk factors. (Jensen, p. 6)" The words that stood out to me here ...

Happy Friday! First off I want to give you some dates to put down on your calendar. On Wednesday, November 8 we will have a shelter drill at 9:20. You may want to review your procedures with your classes to remind them where they need to go. We will also have an extra hour meeting on Wednesday. Please continue to work on your curriculum work from the district in-service day. This month's district in-service is on November 15, and our second extra hour meeting is on November 29.  For those of you who have trimester classes, the trimester ends on the 16th. Midterm for 2nd quarter is December 8. This is the latest you should do a PASS Plan meeting. If you think their is a chance a student may sink in the last four weeks of the quarter make sure you do a plan for that student. After December 8, I will not accept PASS plans as that is not enough time for a parent to assist in the process.   I also want to take the time to reflect on our PD plan to date and to update ever...

Happy Friday! Just a few reminders about upcoming dates. The end of the quarter was yesterday. Beth and Amy will run report cards on this morning so grades need to be updated by Friday at 8:00 am, so please plan accordingly. During advisory on Monday, have your students complete the end of quarter reflection. There will be no video during Advisory because of this. Thank you to those who have turned in PASS Plans. I will be meeting with Seniors who failed a 1st quarter class starting on Monday. If you have one of these seniors and want me to stress something specific to your class please email me so I can do that. For those Seniors that need the credits I'll also communicate with the parents that their child's graduation is in jeopardy. Happy Friday! Congratulations goes out to Mr. Ohrlund and the Big Red Band. They placed 1st in class 3A in the Dutchman Field Championships. They also won 1st place in color guard and the 3A Spirit Award. On Wednesday, they performed at State Marching Band and received division 1 ratings. Great Job! Congrats to Coach Engebretson and the boys' cross country team for placing first at the Lakes Conference Meet on Tuesday. Congrats to Coach Moss and the girls' cross country team for placing runner up at the Lakes Conference Meet on Tuesday. As we near mid-October, the end of the quarter is on October 26. Grades will be due on the on the 27th at 8:00 am so we can run report cards and get them out that day. Please plan accordingly so grades will be accurate when report cards are ran.  Looking ahead, we have a district in-service on the 18th. Happy Friday! You all survived the long parent/teacher conference week! Thank you for all you do to help our students achieve. Many times your hard work goes unnoticed by the parents/students, but it is appreciated by all. This would be good time to think about and nominate one of your peers for employee of the month. Forms can be found here , scroll down and find the form towards the bottom of the page. Looking ahead we have our extra-hour meeting on Wednesday. This will be in your departments continuing the work from the last in-service. The district in-service date is on October 18. Our second meeting building time will be on October 25. If you haven't gotten me your new course proposals yet, please do so by November 1. We are already planning our registration and 8th grade career day.
